Bourdon tubes are also called spring tubes, Bourdon tubes, Baden tubes, and Budon tubes. They refer to elastic sensitive components that use the bending change or torsional deformation of the tube to measure pressure. It was invented by Eugène Bourdon in 1843 and is a core component of precise mechanical pressure measurement technology today and in the future. It is the measuring element of the pressure gauge and can be installed on the tee, but there is also a stop valve between the pressure pipe and the pressure gauge. In 1852, Eugène Bourdon obtained the patent for the Bourdon tube. The Bourdon tube is the oldest pressure detector and is still widely used in various instruments around the world, especially for the measurement of pressure and force.

    Types of bourdon tubes
A Bourdon tube is an almost rectangular or oval cross-section tube made of stainless steel, phosphor bronze or other nickel alloy materials. With a C-shaped tube, as the pressure inside the tube increases over the closed end of the C, the displacement of the closed end becomes a measure of the pressure. A C-shaped Bourdon tube is used to rotate the shaft through gears and cause the pointer to move on the scale. Such instruments are very powerful and are typically used for pressures from 10 kPa to 100 mPa, with an accuracy of approximately ±1% of full scale.
The Bourdon tube dates back to the mid-19th century and is still the most common pressure indicating device today. The tube is formed by flattening a circular cross-section tube and bending it into a C-shape or other shape. One end is fixed and connected to the pressure to be measured. The other end is the free end. When pressure is applied to the Bourdon tube, the non-circular cross-section of the tube gradually expands into a circle under the action of the internal pressure. At this time, the movable end produces a displacement that is related to the pressure. The movable end drives the pointer to indicate the amount of pressure. The most commonly used Bourdon tube is C type, and there are also spiral type, C type combination, twist type and other types. The elastic sensitive element material of the Bourdon tube is made of copper-based or iron-based alloy. It is less sensitive than other pressure-sensitive components and is often used to measure larger pressures. It is often used in combination with other elastic components.

    Application of Bourdon tube
The Bourdon tube is used as the main component of the Bourdon tube pressure gauge in terms of applications. A C-shaped Bourdon tube with an angle of approximately 250 degrees can be used to measure pressures of approximately 60 bar. When measuring higher pressures, threaded Bourdon tubes or screw Bourdon tubes are generally used. Bourdon tubes have certain limitations in terms of overpressure protection. In the case of more complex measuring systems, Bourdon tube pressure gauges can be used in conjunction with chemical seals. The pressure measurement range of the Bourdon tube pressure gauge is 0...0.6 and 0...4000 bar. The measurement accuracy is 0.1 and 4.0%. In addition, the microswitch control circuit is directly triggered by the deformation of the Bourdon tube. This kind of switch is suitable for controlling air pressure, water pressure, oil pressure, liquid level, flow, etc.
